Family Movie Night Recap: Jack and the Beanstalk

***** GOOD *****

This is whatever version of  "Jack and the Beanstalk"  the Redbox is carrying right now. I picked it because it was the only "G" movie we had not seen in the box.   The girls really like it! They watched it again first thing the next  morning...the tell tale sign they liked it.     The set up is a little different then the traditional version, which made it much more interesting for those of us who know this story back and forwards.
In this one, the hero "Jack" is the son of the original  Jack and the beanstalk. He evidently  went up the first beanstalk to never return.  So, this  Jack is living in the shadow of his failed father, amongst all of the other fairytale characters' children.  There are some quirky characters new on the scene, too.  A goose who ate one of the magic beans and turns into a sort of man/goose played by Gilbert Godfrey.  He is entertaining in that Gilbert Godfrey way.   There was some great  3rd grade humor going on....like poop in the face stuff ;)  Even Dad chuckled at this....as he can't resist any sort of "poopy humor". (not so much Mom's thing) The giant is played by James Earl Jones.  He is pretty spooky looking...kind of like a green devil.....but it did not seem to bother my girls. So, on my scale I would rate this a "good".  The kids liked it and it was not painful for the parents;)

We watch a family movie almost every Monday.  Even when we are too tired to do anything else, we seem to be able to manage to cuddle on the couch with popcorn and treats for our weekly "Family Movie Night".
Do you have something special you for family time?
I'd love for you to leave a comment telling me all about it!
