REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY: I Did My Chores!

With January coming to a close I know everyone is working hard on their New Year's goals.  Was one of those goals to keep you home more organized and neater?  I have come across the perfect system to make this a reality by getting  your kids involved!  I Did My Chores!

We have been using this system for a few months and it works great!

Pros:
  • The color coded cards!  We love that there are color coded cards for different times of the day. We all know messes happen at different times. If you home school they happen all day long! Having cards for different time slots will keep your kids on task throughout the day.
  • The cards are plastic! This means they will hold up under little hands!
  • The pictures are simple and funny.  Non-readers will love the silly pictures that are easy to understand.
  • You put the stickers on the cards.  This means you are truly in control of which chores to use. There are also plenty of blank cards to add whatever else you might need.
Cons: (Be sure to check out the comments Jeff's response to these cons. He has some great ideas on how to use the system once you are past using the tokens for everyday things. He has also guaranteed to replace any parts that don't have enough sticky.  I love a company that stands behind it's product!  And he has offered a great deal if you know 10 people ready to purchase this system! 10 for $100!  That is 50% off the retail price!)
  • Mr. Steady and I were not thrilled with giving tokens for simple things like getting dressed.  We started the system out just as suggested.  We gave tokens for every single thing done.  They saved them up and earned different rewards.  Eventually, we decided they were all too old to be "paid" to get dressed and brush their teeth.  We did away with the tokens.  And just kept using the system. So far so good!
  • Some of the hooks fall off every now and then. We are not sure why. A little super glue has fixed the problem, though.

Overall
I love this system.  I have tried quite a few and this is by far the easiest for parents to set up and for kids to carry out. This system is great for the ages 4-9 like it suggests.  I think you should use it exactly how it details at first and then tweak it to work better for your family once you've established some good routines.   If you are struggling to get your children to do their chores or you have children who have never had any kind of chore routine this is the chore system for you! It is truly "The Hassle Free Chore System"!

The I Did My Chores! system is available for purchase on their website for $15.98 plus shipping. I have also seen them on Amazon and a few other online shops.

Hi Joyce!
Thanks so much for reviewing I Did My Chores! (this is Jeff... the distributor, BTW) I hope lots of folks sign up for the chance to win!

Some comments for your review:
The reward tokens are an optional part of the system. We have lots of parents using the chore system without the tokens because there are some things around the house kids just need to DO because they are a part of the household (Amen?). Some parents use the "Extra" hook for those chores worthy of tokens and rewards. Depending on the age of the child, the rewards system helps with the long-term motivation.

We have taken the Dave Ramsey approach of "pay on commission" with out older kids and we track the chores done all week using the tokens, then at the end of the week we cash in the tokens at a dollar amount per token. (Ours is $0.05 per token) This makes our payday much more fair as we automatically can keep track of what the kids (each of them) actually did all week.

But all this is totally flexible for the parent to adjust.
Also, please note that if you EVER have hooks that seem to fall off, I replace any defective part for free... customers can just email me. Sometimes (1 in 500) it happens on some hooks that just don't get the right amount of stick-um.

Happy Hassle-free Day! Thanks!

(Oh! and I am offering an incredible deal for your readers who want to share this product with their coop or other mom's group... buy 10 for only $100! -- 50% off!)

I wish my kids (and husband) would just put their things AWAY. They're always so excited and drop things hither and yon. I'm always chasing around after them saying, "Is this where that goes? Does your backpack live on the floor?" My gosh, I sound like my mother! :D
